NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPEDITION

Oaxaca, Mexico

Journey to Mexico's beautiful city of Oaxaca with National Geographic photographers David Alan Harvey and Ken Garrett and capture the rich culture of the region. Stay at the Hostal de La Noria, located two blocks from the zócalo, one of the prettiest main plazas in Mexico. This workshop follows a similar format to the Santa Fe workshop and includes excursions to ancient Monte Albán, the traditional Zapotec village of Teotitlán del Valle, and Ocotlán's sprawling market.

Daily assignments, location shoots, and critique sessions are designed to improve your photographic technique. All workshops are geared toward amateur and serious digital photographers and include an overview of downloading, archiving, sizing, and adjusting your images on the computer. All participants need to bring a digital SLR camera, a laptop computer, and software for organizing and presenting images.

David Alan Harvey has specialized in capturing on film the heart and soul of Spanish culture. His work has appeared in numerous articles in National Geographic magazine, including "The Song of Oaxaca" and the 1996 "All Mexico" issue.

Awesome Christmas Ideas

Re-Stickable Wall Decal Photo Frames

One 8 pack for $20

or Two 8 packs for $36.00

We have a bit of a thing for simple things that let you change up the photos in your home quickly and without fuss.

After all, who wants to look at the same photos day after day? So it's no surprise that we're crushing on Re-Stickable Decal Photo Frames.

Each pack contains eight stylish frames cut from pliable, premium vinyl. (The same material used to make high-quality wall decals.) The low-tack adhesive sticks to your walls or windows but is a cinch to take off and re-apply. And it won't damage walls or paint.

Tired of the photos you put up? Just peel your sticker frame off the wall and slip in a new one. Want to move a frame to another room? It's just as easy.

It's the fastest way to frame your photos.

Astounding Magnetic Photo Rope

One for $12.00

Two for $20.00

Three for $28.00

Six for $55.00

12 for $99.00

24 for $198.00

Magnetic Photo Rope is one of the coolest things we've found. Cool because it's sleek and modern, because it uses tiny, surprisingly-strong magnets, and because it's not yet another boring photo frame. (It's cheaper, too!)

And now it's available in 5 great colors!

The simple and beautiful 58" cable comes with 8 magnets you can use to attach photos, postcards, birthday cards, dental checkup reminders... you name it. The bottom of the cable is weighted to keep it straight, and a loop of cable at the top lets you hang the rope from anywhere.

Magnetic Photo Rope is way nicer than sticking your photos on the fridge, and a whole lot more interesting than a frame.

DIRECTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHERS

One of my main project goals is to create an online directory of photographers.

Think of it as a facebook for photographers. You can see what your photographer looks like, get a sample of their work, see if they live close to you, see what types of photography they offer, and whether or not they can travel.

If you like their work, look under the contact information for phone numbers, websites, blogs, and email addresses.

Each week I will be highlighting a different person from the directory. Last week I highlighted Natalie Fenn.

This week I will be highlighting Rachel Thurston

Rachel Thurston graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Visual Communications with an emphasis in photojournalism and creative writing. She currently lives in California. She is an amazing photographer (I can testify-she shot my brother’s wedding) and has a wonderful personality as well. She is willing to travel. Contact her about dates and pricing. Check out more of her work by visiting her blog and website.

I have also added two more people to the directory.

I added Abby Cooper and Ellison Graham.

If you want to be listed in the directory, email me your information at rachaeloborn@yahoo.com

Thanks

Types of Photography

High Dynamic Range Photography

High dynamic range (HDR) images enable photographers to record a greater range of tonal detail than a given camera could capture in a single photo.  This opens up a whole new set of lighting possibilities which one might have previously avoided—for purely technical reasons.  The new "merge to HDR" feature of Photoshop CS2 allows the photographer to combine a series of bracketed exposures into a single image which encompasses the tonal detail of the entire series.

Use a tripod and take the same picture over again on different settings. Then combine all three pictures for the final result.

Below are some examples of HDR Photography

LOMOGRAPHY

PICTURES: That is what Lomography is all about. Nothing compares to the feeling of visually diving into a pool of shining, new, sweet-smelling lomographs. My pictures, your pictures, pictures of the world, pictures of fleeting moments, secret passions, boring brou-ha, left toes, blurred nothings. Simply everything. Lomography collects, treasures and presents all of this.

You are lomography

10 Golden Rules of Lomography

1. Take your camera everywhere you go

2. Use it any time- day and night

3. Lomography is not an interference in your life, but part of it

4. Try the shot from the hip

5. Approach the objects of your lomographic desire as close as possible

6. Don't think

7. Be Fast

8. You don't have to know beforehand what you captured on film

9. or afterwards either

10.  Don't worry about any rules

About her:

"My husband and I often tag team shoots. We love capturing emotion in a less traditional way.

We're just getting up and running with a goal to grow our photo skills and gain clients!

Our portrait or family shoots start at $35 which includes about an hour of shooting around Provo and a disc with your photos to keep.

Weddings vary and we can create a custom package with the specific client."

I have also added two more people to the directory of photographers. Be sure to check them out.

I added Jonathan Canlas and Mark Weinberg
